Accessibility statement
Our commitment on accessibility, what we have actually tested, what we know is not yet done, and how to tell us when we get it wrong.
1. Commitment
We sell to public bodies with accessibility obligations, so we hold our own site to the standard we describe to them. This statement records what we have verified rather than what we intend, because an accessibility claim that has not been tested is just a claim.
2. Standard applied
We design against WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard referenced by the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
CONFIRM: whether your organisation is subject to AODA's filing obligations. Ontario organisations with 20+ employees must file an accessibility compliance report; obligations for smaller organisations differ.
3. What we have tested
Across every page of this site we have verified, by automated testing:
- Contrast. Every element containing text was checked against its real composited background at the correct threshold for its size and weight — 4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text. All pass AA.
- Reflow. No horizontal scrolling at any width from 1440px down to 360px, meeting WCAG 1.4.10.
- Keyboard access. Every interactive control is reachable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator, and no positive or negative tab-index traps.
- Structure. One
h1per page, a logical heading order, a skip link to main content, landmark regions, and a declared page language. - Forms. Every input has a programmatically associated label.
- Motion. Animation and smooth scrolling are disabled for visitors who
set
prefers-reduced-motion. - Icons. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology rather than announced as meaningless nodes.
4. Known gaps
Automated testing catches roughly a third of accessibility barriers. We are being specific about what we have not done rather than implying full coverage:
- No screen-reader testing. The site has not been walked through with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver by a person. This is the most significant gap.
- No testing with people with disabilities. No user has been observed completing a task on this site with assistive technology.
- Live regions unverified. The sizing calculator updates results as you type. We have not confirmed those updates are announced usefully — or that they are not announced so often as to be unusable — to a screen-reader user.
- Colour-blindness not formally reviewed, though status information is never conveyed by colour alone.
- No formal conformance audit has been carried out by a third party, so we do not claim a conformance level.
CONFIRM: remove any item above once genuinely addressed, and add a target date for the screen-reader review. A statement listing gaps with no plan attached reads worse than one with dates.
5. Our products
This statement covers shield-ai.ca. Accessibility conformance for a deployed product is established for that deployment and confirmed in writing during procurement, since it depends on configuration, content and integrations we do not solely control.
6. Feedback and alternative formats
If you encounter a barrier on this site, tell us — it is the fastest way for us to fix something our testing missed. Describe the page and what happened, and we will respond.
- Email: info@shield-ai.ca
- Response target: CONFIRM: commit to a period, e.g. five business days
We will provide information from this site in an accessible format or with communication support on request, in a timely manner and at no additional cost.
